The Unified Patent Court, which is to have jurisdiction on Unitary patents as well as European patents, is expected to be up and running by mid 2016.<\/p>\n

An interesting opportunity to experience the procedures and practice of the new court is offered by the UPC Mock Trial that will take place in Rome on 21 April 2016.<\/p>\n

Organised by the Centre d\u2019\u00c9tudes Internationales de la Propriet\u00e9 Intellectuelle<\/a> (CEIPI) with the American Intellectual Property Association<\/a> (AIPLA) \u00a0and SIB Societ\u00e0 Italiana Brevetti, the Mock Trial will simulate an oral hearing before a hypothetical local Italian division of the UPC in proceedings for counterfeiting of a European patent with nullity counterclaim.<\/p>\n

The case to be examined, concerning a biomedical implantable device, is taken from the one developed for the European Patent Judges Forum of 2011 and for the CEIPI\u2019s Training Program for Technically Qualified Judges.<\/p>\n

The event\u2019s language is Italian, interpreting service is available upon request.<\/p>\n
